Three-dimensional reflection seismic imaging of the iron oxide deposits in the Ludvika mining area, Sweden, using Fresnel volume migration

Abstract. We present pre-stack depth-imaging results for a case study of 3D reflection seismic exploration at the Blötberget iron oxide mining site belonging to Bergslagen mineral district in central Sweden. The goal is directly image ore-bearing horizons and delineate their possible depth extension below depths known from existing boreholes. For this purpose, we applied tailored pre-processing workflow two different imaging approaches, Kirchhoff migration (KPSDM) Fresnel volume (FVM). Both techniques deliver well-resolved deposit its host rock, where FVM yields significantly better quality compared KPSDM image. were able unravel distinct horizons, which are linked mineralization provide insights on lateral extent.
